Operational & Risk Management
The manual nature of the management systems provided by virtualization platform vendors combined with the dynamic nature of the virtualization environment has the potential of upending IT policies and procedures for regulatory, security and even software license compliance. So, how do you make your virtualization operating system more efficient, more consistent and to the stage where you can scale your operation safely and cost effectively? For that you need our third Module: V-Commander-ORM™.
V-Commander-ORM™ (Operational & Risk Management)
Automation and process controls that will save administrative time, and create a virtualization management system that allows you to effortlessly meet your current and future audit requirements and allow you to grow safely, securely and under control.
Available as an upgrade to the V-Commander-RCM module, V-Commander-ORM adds process automation and control, ensuring a more efficient, effective and consistent operation and enabling fewer incidents and audit findings while improving fiscal operational and risk oversight.
Included in V-Commander-ORM are automation and process controls that save administrative time, and create a virtualization governance system that allows you to effortlessly meet your current and future audit requirements and allow you to grow safely, securely and under control
Improve Operational Efficiency
V-Commander-ORM continually monitors the entire environment on behalf of the administrative team, alerting them when any out of process activity takes place; saving a significant amount of managerial time, and allowing administrators to focus their time on more valuable activities, managing the virtualization environment by exception.
The automatic policy based controls build on the sprawl detection capability of the RCM module, to actually prevent sprawl from occurring, maintaining a cleaner and more efficient environment.
The built in ability to logical group any aspect of the virtualization infrastructure – and to implement discrete policies against them simplifies the ongoing management of the environment and allows the environment to be managed based on business requirements rather than technological or administrative ones.
Improve Operational Consistency
The dynamic and mobile nature of server virtualization can easily circumvent existing controls that were designed for the traditional datacenter. The use of automation and immediate identification of out of process activities ensures consistency by itself, but V-Commander-ORM, also provides feedback on where processes are breaking down ensuring that the management environment as a whole becomes even more consistent as time progresses.
Unauthorized or "rogue" VMs are automatically identified and the appropriate individuals alerted, while VM approval enforcement, based on auditable, role based separation of duties, allows for the separation of the authorizer role from the VM creation one, providing a further layer of control.
V-Commander-ORM goes even further by providing VM mobility governance – Ensuring that individual VMs can only run where the corporate standards allow them to run. This feature uses the built-in logical grouping capability to create virtual isolation areas for VMs, (i.e. SOX, DMZ, lab or production environments), and ensure that affected VMs are placed correctly with the infrastructure – not only during deployment but throughout the VMs lifecycle.
Manage Risk and Simplify Audits
The impact of virtualization on the datacenter also includes regulatory compliance. For example; most organizations have established policies and procedures around Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX), most of which tend to create a measure of isolation and access control for affected applications. But what happens when these applications are virtualized?
Virtualization can create multiple copies of a single server; with potentially different name, and all of which are designed to be mobile. How does this increased number of servers and their inherent mobility affect your ability to pass your required audits?
Without the ability to uniquely identify VMs, track and trace their movement throughout the environment, (and restrict that movement where necessary), auditing becomes difficult – if not impossible. But V-Commander’s ability to monitor the entire virtual server environment, across multiple VI infrastructures, uniquely identify VMs, track and trace movement and enforce controls ensures that virtual environments stay in control.
Risks are identified and managed quicker, while the extensive reporting provides total insight over the complete environment, making auditing and compliance easier.
V-Commander; A VM operations system that allows you to scale your environment
Embotics V-Commander provides a unique combination of enterprise level insight, control, automation and integration; providing much need governance in this dynamic area of the datacenter, preventing virtual sprawl, saving time, money and effort, while at the same time minimizing corporate risk.
V-Commander delivers value right out of the box, with no complicated installation procedures or scripting to customize and maintain. Most customers are up and running in well under an hour, and gain immediate value from the ease of management, policy based control and automation that it provides.
The automation and monitoring delivered by V-Commander allows IT operational staff to mange by exception rather than through manual effort and process which reduces risk while saving administrative time and money. At the same time it prevents virtual sprawl and ensures optimal use of the environment, allowing organizations to manage more Virtual Machines without needing additional (and costly) resources. Allowing datacenters to scale their virtual environments safely, securely and with minimal incidents.

Embotics Quick-start Integration Program (EQIP™)
Designed to assist clients integrating the management of the virtual datacenter into their existing datacenter management systems, this on-demand integration offering integrates V-Commander with other enterprise management systems; increasing the overall value for our clients.
Delivered remotely by Embotics, this integration includes the pushing of any or all of the VM inventory information contained within V-Commander to any enterprise system that accepts Webservices. (Asset management systems, DMDB’s trouble ticket systems etc).. Additional integration, for example the use of data from other systems to trigger policy or update VM attributes is also available.
Representing the best value in the market today, V-Commander-ORM is the best way to get control of your environment, use automation to free up administrators, and optimize the use of valuable resources, allowing you to meet your compliance standards while growing your virtual environments without the need to add more resources or staff improving the overall return on your virtualization investment.
